A Year in Review

Another year in the recipe books!

2013 has been quite a year. It has been a year filled with extreme joy, intense grief, and everything in between.  Sweet Eddie and I got married and it was wonderful. We happily became an Aunt and Uncle to both a beautiful niece and a handsome nephew. We devastatingly lost Eddie's loving, brave, funny, charming father.  2013 will be a year that we will never forget. I am so grateful to have had my Sweet Eddie by my side for every moment of it. I would be lost without him.

Throughout the year cookie art has been my therapy. It brings me great joy and some stress while it helps me to memorialize moments, celebrate holidays,  learn about myself, and hopefully bring a smile to some one's face.  On this final day of the year, I wanted to share images from my favorite posts this years. Happy Halloween!

The day has arrived, we made it! It is the big night in Salem. Thousands of people will descend on our fair city to fill the streets with costumes, reverie, and excitement . It really is quite the event.  Sweet Eddie and I have our costumes ready and we can't wait!

Welcome to the Witch City!

The Witches are ready to cast a spell

And Candy Corn is happy, can't you tell?

The Spiders in their webs are starting to crawl

While the Mummy is there to creep on us all.

The Pumpkin is carved and out on display

And the Bat is in flight and eager to play.

The moon glows brightly over a spooky tree

And Zombies are hungry to eat you and me!

As the Ghosties float by so tranquil and serene,

Eddie Munster!

We sure are having fun in Salem this season!  Last night we visited Count Orlok's Nightmare Gallery for a terrifying stroll through the haunted monster museum. I only screamed about a dozen times as my Sweet Eddie and I clutched sweaty hands and shuffled closely behind our brave friends.

After the screams and the chills, we got to meet the charming and friendly Butch Patrick who starred as Eddie Munster on "The Munsters."  He still has that fantastic smile!

My Sweet Eddie was very excited because when he was a child he was often called "Eddie Munster." He was a bit of a hairy boy and still is. This picture just makes me so happy.

When I heard that we were going to this event, I just knew I had to make Butch some cookies.  How could I resist? I did a title logo cookie and a portrait of "Eddie Munster."

"Eddie Munster" was and still is such a cutie, so I tried to do him justice.

Butch was so nice and he loved the cookies.  I really appreciated him posing with me and them. 

We look cool. :)

Happy Halloween!

Creature Features 2

Halloween is only 3 days away! Pumpkins are carved, the Salem streets are jam packed with people in costume,  an abundant bowl of peanut butter pumpkins are tormenting me,  and my Sweet Eddie is making me watch scary movies.  I will watch scary movies, but I will not like it. If I think too much about movies like Poltergeist or The Ring,  which I watched ages ago,  I still get freaked out.  I will make Sweet Eddie walk me to the bathroom and turn on all the lights, check under the bed and in the closet... it is all perfectly normal for an adult woman.
The other night we watched The Conjuring. In my attempts to not be totally terrified and my hope to be able to sleep that night,  I focused my attention away from the horror and onto the more amusing things like the music (yay Dead Man's Bones,) Ron Livingstone's complete lack of emotion, and Vera Farmiga's gorgeous ruffled collar dresses. It worked. I think Sweet Eddie was more scared than I was.  He loves it though.

Last Halloween I made some classic movie monster cookies in Creature Features. This year I branched out to a variety of scary Halloween movies and other films that feature creepy characters.

Cookies for Fall

It's October in New England.  The air is crisp, the trees are full of color, everything is pumpkin and each day here in Salem feels like Halloween. It is fantastic. Sweet Eddie and I love to take weekend strolls and fill our senses with everything our home has to offer.  Last weekend we watched an old time baseball game, strolled through a park with some beautiful changing leaves, viewed an outdoor movie, and witnessed an amazing, full, orange moon beaming over the harbor. Happy days.

 It is easy to find cookie inspiration this time of  year.
